We are carving the new eagle out of the same stone the original monument is made from, buff Indiana limestone.
Hand carved to match a model using a pointing machine as a measuring device.
The model was made by scanning a very similar eagle on the 42nd Indiana Infantry, printing that scan and modifying it to match the historic photo of the original eagle on the 4th

This is how the new eagle will be installed on the monument. The area in red will be removed and the new eagle will be inserted.
Here's a sneak peak inside the travel crate from the carvers, Scott and Mimi

The joint preparation on the eagle is complete and we are ready to dry-fit the dutchman.
The fit was a good one. Now we start carving the eagle's talons and the stack of stones they grip.
Carving of the talons, tail, and 'rock stack' the eagle stands on is complete.
The eagle has been installed, and all the finishing details have been carved.
That's all for now.
Thanks for checking it out.
