What are we doing?

Northern Stone Carving is installing a new eagle to replace the original, last documented in place in 1901, on the 4th Indiana Cavalry monument.

This new eagle is carved out of the same stone as the original monument, buff Indiana limestone.

Carved to match a model using a pointing machine as a measuring device.

The model was made by scanning a very similar eagle on the 42nd Indiana Infantry, printing that scan and modifying it to match the historic photo of the original eagle on the 4th

This is how the new eagle will be installed on the monument. The area in red will be removed and the new eagle will be inserted.

The joint preparation is complete on the monument and the tail of the eagle is emerging.
